Creative Team

Karen Bell and Kate Gant established creativityteam in 2004 to provide opportunities for experienced creative practitioners to share good practice and work together.
All our projects are designed to meet the specific needs of the brief presented by the client.
Karen or Kate take a lead on developing each project working with a with a team of specialist associates and artists to deliver the work programme.

Karen Bell

Karen has a history of working with the public, voluntary and private sectors as well as arts organisations and individual artists. Her flexible and highly adaptable approach, coupled with a resourceful working attitude and excellent listening and negotiation skills, means that she communicates effectively at a range of levels with a diverse range of project stakeholders. She works on a strategic level, where planning, overview and evaluation are paramount.  

Karen is passionate about inclusivity and equality, and applying social models to address these issues. She believes that the changing culture of many public and private sectors demand a much more creative, integrated and holistic approach in the delivery of their services.



Kate Gant

Kate was one of the founder members of Walsall Community Arts and established their nationally acclaimed Arts In Health programme of work. She has also been a senior manager in a Local Authority and brings experience of managing complex regeneration initiatives. 

Kate has gained a national reputation for her approaches to community involvement and works with organisations across the UK to use participatory approaches to involve stakeholders in developing and evaluating services. She uses creative tools and participatory techniques to enable diverse groups of people to work together, make decisions and to develop services, which meet local need and achieve strategic priorities.

Mark Yorke

Mark is the director of Born Communication Limited who specialise in providing design and media services to educational, public and health sector clients.

Mark has over six years experience working on Arts & Health projects and currently manages design and media for praxis and creativematerials. He provides a flexible approach and specialises in involving young people in design/creative processes.


Claire Carter

During the past 12 years Claire has gained extensive experience of developing, implementing and evaluating community-centered programmes.  She specialises in taking a participatory and creative approach to her work and has particular experience of undertaking community consultation and facilitating community-led planning. 

Claire is currently working as creativityteam's project manager, managing the Happiness project on behalf of the Black Country Arts & Health Commissioning Partnership.
In addition Claire is an experienced facilitator and facilitates training, seminars and conferences.


Philippa Cross

Having begun her career working for MIND national office, Philippa has significant experience in the voluntary and cultural sector, with more than 14 years of working with artists, arts organisations, community groups, local authorities, and other partners.  Her expertise lies particularly in strategic planning, facilitation and evaluation, supported by excellent communication skills and a real desire to share learning and develop practice.

Philippa has a particular interest in developing creative and collaborative approaches to planning, delivery and evaluation, ensuring that all involved feel ownership of the process, rather than feeling ‘done to’.
